Crete, the largest island of Greece, is a cultural crossroad due to its strategic geographical position. It is famous for its history, culture, nature and nutritional habits and it is one of the most popular Greek tourism destinations.
Crete is the place of birth, growth and flourishing of the ancient Minoan civilization, during the bronze age (from around 3000 to 1100 BC), one of the most significant civilizations in Europe and the entire world. The ruins of the palace of Knossos, close to the city of Heraklion, is a major attraction of archaeological interest. According to Greek mythology, it was the capital of King Minos and home of the Labyrinth. Other important palaces are those of Phaistos, Malia and Zakros. Representative artefacts from all periods of Cretan prehistory and history, covering a chronological span of over 5.500 years from the Neolithic period to Roman times, are housed in the Archeological Museum of Heraklion. The singularly important Minoan collection contains unique examples of Minoan art, many of them true masterpieces. Traces and monuments of its remarkable history, dating from the Bronze Age until today, are visible all over the island.

In the 14 chapters of this book the authors provide an excellent selection of topics and examples that constitutes necessary knowledge for everyone involved in designing user interfaces, and perhaps even all software engineers.
The book starts by reviewing human perception (Chapter 1), followed by vision and visual perception, visual structure (chapter 2 and 3), color blindness (chapter 4), and peripheral vision (chapter 5).
Reading, attention, learning, decision making and aim movement are covered by focusing on areas that are really relevant to HCI and user interface design.
The book is easy to read for novice audiences, students and particularly practitioners. It is well illustrated with plenty of examples.
One missing topic might be a chapter on movement and touch, necessary for interaction design for touch screens.
